PNoy praises Azkals' win

MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III congratulated the Philippine Azkals for "bringing pride and honor" to the Filipinos for winning 2-0 over the Mongolian Blue Wolves in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup qualifier.


“I am grateful to you for bringing pride and honor to Filipinos the world over. Your two goals showcased both Filipino creativity and the hard work you put in to master your sport,” the President said in a statement released after the game on Wednesday.


Mr. Aquino, who was earlier reported to attend the Azkals match but deferred due to his tight schedule, said that with the win, the Azkals have united the country

You brought our people together, and reminded us once again that, united, we can reclaim our nation's glory, " he said.
The president also sent his regards to the team who will clash once more with the Mongolians in the away leg in Ulan Bator on March 15.


"We look forward to cheering you on toward more triumphs," he said.


Earlier, Philippine Football Federation (PFF) president Mariano Araneta Jr. disclosed that Aquino laid his support for the team by releasing P3 million from his Social Fund for the organizational needs.

Araneta said the money was used to fund  funds were used to supposed to fund the yet most prestigious football event on on home soil.
