University of Santo Tomas (UST) thrashed Ateneo, 5-0, to earn a finals seat in the UAAP men's football tournament on Sunday at the Ateneo Erenchun field.

The Tigers feasted on the Blue Eagles to cement their hold of the No. 2 spot with 22 points following six wins, two draws and two defeats.

Fidel Kue got things going for the Tigers with a goal in the 25th minute before Ronald Bautista added made it 2-0 in the 40th minute.

UST continued with its hot offense with OJ Clarino, David Basa and John Caballero scoring a goal each (55th, 76th and 83rd minute) in the second half.

The Tigers will face top-ranked University of the Philippines in Sunday's 2 p.m. finals (February 27) at the Ateneo Erenchun field with the Fighting Maroons holding a twice-to-beat advantage.

Rookie sensation Jinggoy Valmayor, meanwhile, scored both of UP's goals in the Maroons' morale-boosting 2-0 win over the La Salle Green Archers to enter the finals.

It was Valmayor's eighth goal of the tournament as the Fighting Maroons remained undefeated with 28 points behind nine wins and a draw.

The Green Archers finished the season in third place with 16 points (4-4-2 win-draw-loss).

It was a different story for the UST women's football squad as the Tigresses clinched a twice-to-beat advantage in the finals after beating Far Eastern University, 2-1.

UST got into a tie with the FEU with 16 points (5-1-2) but the Tigresses secured the semis edge due to a higher goal difference.

The women's final will also be played on Sunday at the Erenchun field at 9 a.m.
