In the past few days, some rumors began to circulate on the web and if it holds true, all personality involved in the sporting world, will rejoice. Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s chief lieutenant, has stated that negotiations about a possible Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight for November have begun. Jeff Mayweather, Floyd Jr.’s uncle, has also said that the Mayweather-Pacquiao might even take place in Africa.

After two straight years and two failed negotiations, the Mayweather-Pacquiao or Pacquiao-Mayweather (whichever you prefer) super-fight appears to have rekindled  the dying bonfire after all. Fight fans started to steer away from the possibility of a fight as the two protagonists seems to care more in their lives outside boxing. For whatever reason, It was clear that the two had no intention of fighting each other after a long course of negotiations. If either one of them really wanted this match, they could have already fought twice by now. Why are they still not fighting? Check out my previous article Analyzing the Mayweather-Pacquiao Fallout. The answers might be with the King-Arum collaboration.

Don King and Bob Arum have been cemented in the game almost their entire lives. Arum and King are the giants of the sport and have been bitter rivals for over five decades. But when they collaborate, they work perfectly well. Next Saturday, the first co-promotion in this decade between Arum and King will take place. Bob Arum recently said “Don and I bring different types of energy to a fight and I think it works. I think the public is intrigued and gets to know about the event. It benefits the fighters and it benefits the public and it benefits the sport of boxing. So by all means we are going to do other events together.” This statement might hold a clue to the super-fight. Here’s the catch. As we all know, Mayweather and De La Hoya were former Top Rank superstar fighters. It all started after Oscar left Top Rank, and was followed by Mayweather’s departure. Since then, Arum despised Dela Hoya and vice versa; Bob is still furious with Mayweather and vice versa; Uncle Bob’s Top Rank was sued by Oscar’s Golden Boy. Oscar’‘s Golden Boy Promotions represents Mayweather; Top Rank doesn’t want to enter into any negotiations with Golden Boy.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Arum and Mayweather were seen hanging out and enjoying the whole Super Bowl atmosphere. Was there any discussion about the Pacquiao fight? Last year, “Money” Mayweather was seen hanging out with Don King a couple of times, which surprised many people. Is he going to sign with Don King? Pacquiao is running out of opponents and so is Mayweather. Mayweather is now 34; Pacquiao is pushing 33.
Bob Arum was recently quoted on examiner.com that “If Don has Mayweather and I have Pacquiao, I didn’t say the fight would be made in a day, I said the fight would be made within one hour. Don and I would have cut to the essentials. We would have worked out the few details and we make the fight. Mayweather would do well to go with Don. It would be one of the greatest promotions ever."

If Mayweather jumps to Don King Promotions could we now finally see the much awaited boxing match in our era?
