MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao’s fight date with Shane Mosley is still 3 weeks away yet boxing promoter Bob Arum has already lined up a possible opponent for the Filipino boxing superstar.

Arum is grooming Puerto Rican boxer Kermit Cintron as a potential foe for 8-division champion Pacquiao, who is due for a May 7 title fight against Mosley.

"Cintron's name goes on the list of possible Pacquiao opponents,” the veteran boxing promoter told Examiner.com.

Cintron, a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion, recently inked a deal with Arum’s Top Rank Inc.

He won 32 fights, knocking out 28 of his opponents. His losses were only against bigger boxers like Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito.

Cintron is currently campaigning in the junior welterweight division.

Looking beyond Mosley
Arum assured boxing fans that they are not looking past Pacquiao’s upcoming fight against Mosley.
"But I've got a guy, meaning Manny, who plans on fighting five more times. And I've got to have guys who can give him hard fights. Cintron is one of those guys," he said.

He added that the Puerto Rican could go back as a welterweight to fight Pacquiao.

Cintron’s chief trainer, Ronnie Shields, believes his boxer could give Pacquiao more than he could handle.

"Kermit is a big puncher with knockout power," said Shields.

"I've been with Kermit for his last five fights. He can take you out with either hand. There is a lot of excitement when Kermit gets into the ring," he added.
