MANILA, Philippines – Jimmy Alapag, one of Talk N’ Text’s star cagers, bagged the most recent Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honor, which is for the period April 18 to 24.
In a PBA.ph report, Alapag earned the award after averaging 15.6 points, 5.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals, as he bolstered the Tropang Texters team against Air 21 Express, 118-104, last Wednesday.
In said game, pointguard Alapag contributed 27 points capping a three-game sweep in their best-of-five semifinals duel with Air21.
"I hope it’s a sign that Jimmy’s game is peaking for the Finals,” an apparently pleased Chot Reyes, coach of the Texters, said.
For TNT to have the first among its player bag the award in the conference, Reyes said in jest: “Sayang! We wanted to go through an entire tournament where none of our players gets POTW honors as a sign of our teammanship.”
TNT will next face Barangay Ginebra in the race-to-four championship series.
Aside from Alapag, Kelly Williams, Ryan Reyes, Ranidel de Ocampo and Harvey Carey are expected to provide support to Texters import Paul Harris.
