MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals' Filipino-British striker Phil Younghusband started undergoing hydrotherapy last Wednesday to hasten his recovery from a hamstring injury he sustained in a football match.

The hydrotherapy is part of the recuperation process he has to undergo to make sure that the muscle tear in his right hamstring is fully healed in time for the Azkals' World Cup qualifying tie against Sri Lanka on June 29.

The 1-hour therapy is composed of exercises like walking, jumping, throwing kicks, and doing jump header drills. Younghusband has done all of these movements inside a swimming pool.

After the therapy, his doctor conducted an ultrasound on his injured hamstring to monitor the healing process.

Younghusband is confident that he will be fully healed when the Azkals start practicing for their game against Sri Lanka.

"Masaya ako at sana makahanda sa training sa first week of May... I have to be fit for the World Cup qualifiers," he said.

The Filipino-British player sustained the injury during the Azkals' away match against against Mongolia in Ulan Bator last month.

Younghusband had to sit out the whole Challenge Cup group stage in Myanmar because of the injury.

Younghusbands open football camp

Meanwhile, Younghusband and his older brother James launched the Younghusband Football Academy Summer Camp in Taguig on Thursday.

Younghusband said the football clinic will help boost interest in the sport.

"I started the academy because football wasn't big at the time and I wanted to marry my two loves. Football (and) the Philippines," Younghusband told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

"The Academy gave me the chance to be involved in what I love in the country I love," he added. – With reports from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News; and Barry Viloria, abs-cbnNEWS.com
