The bout between Manny Pacquiao and “Sugar” Shane Mosley last Saturday (Sunday in Manila) has sent analysts looking into a more promising foe for the Filipino boxing superstar.

Topping the list of prospects is Juan Manuel Marquez, who wants a third match with the Fighter of the Decade.

Boxing analyst Ed Tolentino finds the rematch to be more gripping than the lackluster 12-round fight between Pacquiao and Mosley over the weekend.

"'Yung Pacquiao-Marquez, kung aksyon ang hanap niyo, palagay ko dito yun mangagaling sapagkat personalan na eh," Tolentino said.

The chances for a Pacquiao-Marquez match, however, have turned slim due to Pacquiao’s rise to the welterweight division.

The two pugs have faced each other twice in the super featherweight category.

Following the first match in 2004 that ended in a draw, Pacquiao defeated Marquez in 2008 to steal the Mexican’s World Boxing Council super featherweight crown.

Pacquiao, meanwhile, is expected to fight in November. Apart from Marquez, the Filipino superstar will likely take on either Timothy Bradley or Zab Judah.

‘Pacman too slow in Mosley match’

Meantime, Tolentino and fellow boxing analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz remain disappointed over the Pacquiao-Mosley match, particularly on Pacquiao’s performance.

Nathanielsz said the Pacman was slower compared to his previous bouts.

"There were things that were lacking. Manny to me seemed a little slow than usual. The speed was not there. He didn't put too many combinations until he got upset with Mosley," the veteran analyst said.

Tolentino echoed the statement, giving the match a rating of 6 to 7.

“Ang problema kasi: Kapag ika'y si Manny Pacquiao, you have raised the barometer. People would expect every time you come in, you raise the bar further," he said. – With a report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News
