MANILA, Philippines – Former world bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico wants a rematch against Filipino-American boxer and 3-time world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr.

The Mexican boxer, who lost to Donaire via a 2nd-round technical knockout (TKO), is now working his way toward a second face-off against the Filipino champ.

Montiel lost his World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight titles to Donaire.

“I'm hoping to get a shot at another world championship and then I want to get a rematch with Donaire," Montiel said in BoxingScene.com.

The Mexican champion recently stopped Venezuelan Nehomar Cermeno via a 3rd-round TKO.
Montiel, however, will have to wait for Donaire to sort out his differences with boxing promoter Bob Arum, after the Filipino signed with rival Golden Boy Promotions.

Arum said that Donaire will have possible fights against Anselo "Chemito" Moreno, Guillermo Rigondeaux, and Jorge Arce if the Filipino boxer decides to reunite with Top Rank.
