source: by Scott ChristRecently Bob Arum made some statements about Puerto Rican junior middleweight Kermit Cintron possibly being in line for a shot at Manny Pacquiao down the road.
Cintron, whose up-and-down career has included some nights where he surprised folks and nights where he was overwhelmed by better fighters, recently signed with Top Rank.
But when talking to BoxingScene.com's Chris Robinson about a Pacquiao-Cintron fight in the future,
Roach dismissed Cintron:"Didn't Kermit quit in his last fight? Who would pay to see that?," said Roach, obviously preferring other options for his star fighter at the moment.
Roach, of course, is referring to Cintron's bizarre May 2010 fight with Paul Williams, which saw Cintron fall out of the ring to the arena floor in the fourth round, after which Cintron claimed he couldn't move and the fight was stopped and sent to the cards, where Williams won the truncated bout. Once placed on the stretcher and strapped in, an animated Cintron appeared to express -- too late -- his desire to continue the fight.
I don't think there's anyone out there who would buy into a Pacquiao-Cintron fight. Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KO) was twice demolished by Antonio Margarito in his other two losses, and got a very gift-y draw against Sergio Martinez in 2009.
Of recent fights, his only impressive win was against Alfredo Angulo, but how impressive was it? Angulo (19-1, 16 KO) is a fun offensive fighter, but still a prospect with a lot of obvious flaws, such as his inability to box effectively and his extreme slowness.
I just can't see anyone getting interested in Pacquiao-Cintron. Would you buy it?
