MANILA, Philippines – Local boxing analysts urged boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao to take extra caution when he climbs the ring against Shane Mosley this weekend.

Veteran boxing pundits Ronnie Nathanielsz and Ed Tolentino said Mosley, being African-American, is different from all the fighters Pacquiao has faced before.

"This guy's gonna be different,” said Nathanielsz. “This guy's gonna have a calculated, intelligent fight so Pacquiao can't just go charging in although I think that's what he'll try to do.”

He said the Filipino champion could find himself in trouble if he insists on brawling his way into Mosley’s defense.

“That could really be dangerous for him especially in the early rounds,” said Nathanielsz.
Tolentino said Pacquiao should also maintain his killer instinct if he wants to be successful against Mosley.

He said the beloved champion from General Santos City might get a taste of Mosley’s punching power if he’s not careful.

’Yung last 2 fights [ni Pacquiao], decisions. Hindi s'ya nabigyan ng serious opposition, and I believe itong laban kay Shane Mosley, at least in the first 5 rounds, makaka-lasap, makaka-tikim ng power ni Mosley itong si Manny Pacquiao,” said Tolentino.

Pacquiao will be defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against Mosley on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Arena ion Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mosley will be the first African-American boxer to test the mettle of the 8-division champion from the Philippines.

Eight of Pacquiao's last 10 boxing fights were against Mexican boxers. The other 2 bouts were against a Briton and a Ghanaian. – With a report from TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News
ABS-CBNnews.com will give live updates of the Pacquiao-Mosley fight on Sunday, May 8.
