MANILA, Philippines – Indonesian pro football club Persiba Balikpapan fired Jason de Jong for violating his contract with the Superleague club.

According to MetroTV News Indonesia, Legal Division Newcastle chair Aberdeen Muhammad Mundar cited several grounds for De Jong’s removal from persiba Balikpapan.

"We were forced to fire Jason De Jong for having violated our contract agreement because he rarely attends practice and has made excuses about his physical condition which turned out to be a lie,” he said.

The Azkal was issued letters of reprimand thrice, according to Mundar, but the defensive midfielder did not take these seriously.

De Jong joined the team in February of 2011 for $80,000 that would have kept him with the club for the remainder of the 2010-2011 Indonesia Super League season.

According to Philippine Azkals team manager, Dan Palami, De Jong is still part of the team's training pool.

However, he said De Jong is not yet assured of a spot in the Azkals' upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Sri Lanka.
