MANILA, Philippines – Gary David and new import Martin Zeno led Powerade to a 99-91 come-from-behind win over San Miguel in the PBA commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday.
According to PBA.ph, the Powerade Tigers snapped its three-game skid courtesy of David’s undeniable performance against the Beermen.
The 6’2” David scored 26 of his game-high 35 points in the second half to help his team overcome a 58-72 deficit in the third period.
Powerade coach Bo Perasol also praised Zeno for playing a big part in their victory.
Zeno drew the San Miguel defense toward him, allowing Powerade’s shooters to score from the three-point territory.
“It’s not only Gary, but also our new import,” said Perasol. “Everybody contributed, with everybody giving a piece of their mind during our huddles, timeouts.”
Chico Lanete tallied 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, while Norman Gonzales added 4 points aside from grabbing a team-high 8 rebounds.
Zeno finished with 13 points.
Powerade improved its win-loss slate to 2-4 to move to 7th place in the league’s team standings.
San Miguel, meanwhile, dropped to its 4th loss in 5 games and is now near the bottom of the team rankings.
